A Love of Silver
I admit I have this love for collecting silver. Vintage silver is one of those things I have a hard time walking by at a vintage market or in the thrift store. Bits of pieces of silver always seems to catch my eye from across the room. On a recent trip to a vintage market day, I came across a plastic bin full of silver-plated random pieces for $6 each. The seller actually gave me the stem or column piece for free.
I dug in for a love of silver -Here are my treasures
A Collection of Randomness
Silver collecting can range from modest to extensive. It can include items as simple as flatware, teapots, sugar bowls, creamers, candlesticks, napkin rings, trays, or cutlery. I possess multiple sets of vintage silver flatware, which I greatly cherish. I don’t devalue damaged items; in fact, some of my favorite’s feature worn handles, faded finishes, and various dents and dings. Despite these imperfections, they remain beautiful and versatile in their use. The possibilities for collecting, utilizing, and showcasing silver are many.
A Compote Bowl
A Compote bowl is an all-purpose serving dish – or a footed bowl. They can come with or without lids. While digging for pieces of silver in the bins I knew that I could create something with the stem of a broken candle holder and a silver bowl that was just the right size.

Patina
I love dark patina on silver just as much as I love that shiny polish. I do polish just to see the shine from the individual piece. But honestly, there is something about that darkened old patina that I do love sometimes. As of right now, I have little intentions of removing the patina by polishing unless it becomes a styling need.
These are the pieces of silver wearing that slightly brassy toned and mottled tarnish that I leave quite often.
I tend to bring wayward pieces home no matter what they are- because I always find a wonderful way or place to enjoy them for a love of silver. Silver is definitely on that ever-growing list of things that makes my heart swoon tarnished or polished vintage or new.
What I Bought & How I styled It
By joining two pieces of silver with glue, I fashioned a compote bowl. To style it, I placed an autumn-scented candle and a small wreath within it, just embracing the simplicity.
Just a little side note, I did polish these pieces up just enough for them to be more cohesive. A love of silver extends to a few family heirlooms that you can see here and here on how I simply added embellishment.
