I’m most often inspired by something simple. I know that seems crazy when sometimes what makes a room is all the ‘stuff’ in it that is decorating it. But there is a fine balance between too much that it takes away and just enough that is leaves you wanting just a bit more.
Keeping more to the simple side allows me to really notice and appreciate so much more than what the eye first sees. Like instead of a whole bunch of flowers, of a huge bouquet, one single stem allows each individual blossom to stand out that much more. Now, don’t get me wrong when it comes to flowers of any kind, I am all for a big bouquet of them, but I also appreciate a simple bottle with one or two stems just as much – where you see so much more of the intricacies of the flower. Sometimes it is simply the ‘breathing space’ in design that makes it perfect.
Vintage Bottles and Blooms
Something as simple as a few glass bottles with a couple blooms can be a perfect way to style a shelf or table without overwhelming it. I have a small collection of vintage bottles in various shapes and sizes. They came to me through various avenues of family heirlooms, the thrift store and sometimes at antique stores. Depending on the color and sizes they can be very inexpensive.
Rustic Wooden Box Centerpiece
Now if you know me, you will know that when it comes to home decor, I don’t mind creating my own. So, when I came across this pretty piece of cedar wood at the lumber store, I had to take it home and make something. I love all the knots and veins in the wood and the color is perfection! I made another wooden box like this here.
This became my simple wooden box centerpiece with a few vintage bottles. A mix of sea blue bottles and a clear. I assembled this within 30 minutes. Filled with bottles holding a single bloom of stock. A perfect table centerpiece when less is more.
