It’s Tulip Season!
It’s tulip season! I love flowers and tulips are among my favorite flowers. Tulips are beautiful by themselves with their long stems and delicate petals; garden tulips bring elegance when added to any bouquet or centerpiece. For me tulips mark the beginning of a new season – Spring!

I picked up these red beauties from a local grocery store. I thought they went well with my current decor for February. As far as the tulip in general, I think they are such delicate flowers, in my mind. They are certainly temperamental.

Choosing a Vase for Tulips
So, I have read that when choosing a tulip vase, one might consider a thinner more tapered being better for tulip arrangements since it will help your tulips stand tall. Most importantly, is to choose a vase that supports the height of the tulip.

At this stage my tulips were already opening up and beginning to droop a bit. What I think? I think you should choose a vase that makes you happy. Other options might include Antique decor like French buckets, glass canning jars, or skinny necked bottles.

How to Keep Tulips from Drooping – During It’s Tulip Season!
To keep tulips from drooping try these tips:
- Change the water frequently to cool fresh water at least every other day.
- Avoid placing your tulips in direct sunlight and heat.
- Choose a vase that supports them
- Cut the stems at a forty-five-degree angle this helps the stems absorb water more efficiently and prevents the flowers from bending towards the light.
- Add a clean copper penny or two to prevent bacteria and support stronger stems
- Water level is important because tulips do not like to be submerged too much.

Before the Refresh in the A.M.
You can see some of the tulips are drooping! The blooms are really opening up as well.

You can see the water is a bit murky. Just to be honest, a few of the tulips didn’t make the cut and had to be completely removed.

These are the before photos of the research and refresh. From what I can gather, the “Penny Trick” is just an old wife’s tale. Well, we will see. From the “Copper Penny Trick” Copper is considered a fungicide, which can actually kill off bacteria (the culprit that makes your flowers droop).
After the Refresh in the P.M.
Below are the tulips in the afternoon. After fresh water and pennies were added to the water. I think you can see a slight difference in the bloom. What do you think?

For Its tulip season!
What I have found to hold the most credit – Choose only the freshest tulips. Remember to remove any lower leaves that may be submerged below the water level in order to prevent bacteria growth! Change the water frequently. Tulips will continue to grow even after they are cut. For long-lasting tulips, make sure to wipe the vase out clean when you are changing the tulip water every couple of days (Can not say that enough). Remember, keep tulips away from direct heat and sunshine and most importantly, enjoy them!
