Welcome – Weekend Roundup & Slow Living
Welcome to a weekend roundup and slow living.
My crazy art! When you doodle & paint it for the fun of it.
Slow Living Saturday – A Weekend Roundup
It’s another wet weekend. Snow and wind in our forecast. It becomes a bit of slow living when the weather is a tad grizzly. We basically hunker down around the woodstove with a roaring fire watching a movie or reading a book. This was that Saturday! I did however check on Willa the sourdough starter. The starter is a bit of a diva to be honest. It needs attention everyday- remove half and then feed it – Every. Day. So that is what I did.
Even the horses are tucked in their shelters.
Adventures with Willa the Sourdough Starter
This is Willa day 3. You can see the rubber band marking the level of where Willa was the day before, day 2. It did rise! This whole separation thing has me a bit confused. You can see a layer of liquid at the bottom of the jar. I’m not sure why that happened or if it is a good or bad thing. I will tell you that when I took off the lid it smelled yeasty. That’s a good thing! I’m not throwing her out yet, going to keep it going. I am hoping that after several days – to a week- it should be a happy starter- and if it is- you can try using it. I will say- it is an adventure folks. Haha. Oh, my goodness, from worrying about if the starter is happy to being excited to create and bake a loaf of sourdough bread. I’ll keep you posted.
Side note:
The whole remove half of the starter everyday thing. A tad confusing. I don’t mind tending to it every day, but it takes more than a spur of the moment kind of thing to bake a loaf of bread. You must remove starter, feed it and then wait a day. By day seven, there should be enough beneficial bacteria and yeast present to bake sourdough bread and other fermented sourdough goodies. Yes, I am logging this as a science experiment using a bit on the scientific method. I am completing my observation, collecting data, researching the topic daily, predicting a positive outcome- a loaf of sourdough bread, continue to examine my data and will compare hypothesis to the final results. Haha. This is so much fun!
This is a weekend roundup & slow living adventures with Willa the sourdough starter and just a slow living Saturday.
Thanks for stopping by Rustic and Refound. Have a blessed Sunday!
