Creating a Neutral Autumn Tablescape
Neutral Autumn Table – Maybe not the everyday table.
Entertaining starts with setting a fabulous table and the arrangement of dishes – black upon black. This post is about creating a neutral autumn tablescape. Welcome to Fall! Wooden pine chargers, black dinner plates, salad plates, and perhaps a bowl for dessert. A moody table setting featuring black dinnerware, complemented by DIY lace-edged gray cotton napkins for a personal touch, and contemporary gold flatware. This is paired with simple crystal goblets and a modern teacup. It’s a blend of elegance and everyday charm, creating a neutral tablescape perfect for autumn.
The Place Setting
Texture adds an extra layer of interest and beauty to table settings. Incorporate it with plates, crystal goblets, and gold modern flatware. For a black place setting, you can introduce a neutral palette with browns and faded burnt orange, ideal for autumn. This is perfect for a welcoming Sunday brunch, yet the moody, bold, and beautiful arrangement can easily transition to an elegant evening setting with just a few candles and a sprinkle of twinkling lights to create a neutral autumn table.
Wooden Chargers – Creating a Neutral Autumn Tablescape
The chargers made of pine wood add a nice heavy element under-plate and gold flatware.
Creating Layers on the Table
When setting a layered table, envision it as an extension of the story your food and occasion tell. Each layer should enhance the meal, revealing a new aspect with each course. Don’t hesitate to mix and match dishes, stemware, and flatware, whether the setting is casual or formal. A non-uniform collection can still be harmonious and adds an air of sophistication. The most charming settings I’ve created feature an artfully disheveled arrangement that puts guests at ease. Here’s a little secret: the pieces in this tablescape aren’t from a single set but are an eclectic mix from various places and times. Adding to the layers, a petite gold creamer and pitcher echo the golden flatware, giving a touch of opulence. Scattered dried orange slices provide a pop of color and an element of intrigue.
Crystal goblets add more sparkle and shine or that opulence to this neutral autumn tablescape while reflecting the dried slice of orange. You can purchase dried orange slices, or you can make your own. I made my own. Cut your orange at about 1/8 inch thick and place on a parchment lined cookie sheet and bake in the oven at 200 degrees Fahrenheit for 2 -4 hours making sure you rotate them and watch that they do not burn. I just like how they add another dimension to creating the neutral autumn tablescape.
A 5-minute Autumn Table Centerpiece with Seasonal Decor
Here’s a quick and straightforward DIY idea for a 5-minute Fall Table Centerpiece! This centerpiece is incredibly simple and quick to assemble. It truly takes just a few minutes to create. Begin with a burlap table runner. Add a fall/autumn garland of your choice on top. I selected a faux neutral fall foliage. This concept can be adapted to a variety of styles and colors for the autumn season. Opt for vibrant colored leaves, autumnal flowers, or even a wreath to personalize it!
You can totally make warm-toned neutrals work in your fall tablescape! Shades of brown, contrasting black and gray, and deep shades of orange and woods definitely speak fall/autumn. Included in this tablescape are the traditional autumn textures with burlap or warm woods, all let a Neutral Autumn theme shine through.
Candles for the Cozy
A large, three-wick candle exuding a warm autumn fragrance enhances the ambiance from the table’s center. At the table’s end, three brass candle holders with tall black candles contribute to the sparkle without obstructing the flow of laughter and conversation.
A Thrifted Score
It’s no secret that I love thrifting. So, when I happen to see these small stoneware teacups in the browns and golds (with gold lily) in their little modern design, I knew they had to come home with me. Wasn’t quite sure how I would use them, but they spoke to me, and it was love. Now here they are helping me in creating a neutral autumn tablescape.
How I Originally envisioned the Place Setting
I originally envisioned this place setting with wood tree slices. However, due to the cost of using the large 12 inch or better wood slices I opted for a replacement by using a 1/2-inch piece of pine.
