What is Your Design Style?
Have you ever taken a design style quiz? Well, I’m always interested in what my design style might look like. At Boxwood Avenue Interior Design, I completed a brief complimentary quiz that indicated my design style is Country Cottage. Note, the design aesthetic description assigned to my design style. In addition, my design style is playful colors and feminine patterns that feel perfectly-imperfect. I say, what is perfection anyway? … Possibly the death of creativity.
Based on my feedback to the design questions provided, my personal essence of design that I value is natural materials and a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. Maybe think Cotswolds meets Provence. I found this fun and kind of interesting. Not at all what I thought! From my photo postings you tell me.
Country Cottage
Country Cottage is simple, it is all the “natural beauty of rustic materials, playful colors, and a collection of cherished textiles that tell stories of whimsy and comfort.”
My Phylosphy on My Home Style – Country Cottage
Creating a peaceful home has got to feel different and so good for each person who calls it home. It must be a safe place with lovely old pieces and objects that bring you joy and pleasure. A place that you are not trying to escape from. A home where you feel settled and are surrounded by pieces that bring you simple moments of joy can never be a bad thing. Think: Layers, layers, and layers.
I love playful textiles, color and layering in heirloom furniture.
Think Outside the Box
Consider alternatives to large retail chains – think outside the box. Choose the unique! Make it meaningful. “If your heart resonates with the essence of “Country Cottage,” you likely find joy in the natural beauty of rustic materials.” Does this sound like me?
I do love being creative with rustic materials.
Zinc buckets of blooms stand at attention in the foyer.
Collections
Find your unique style with curated treasures. Seek collected pieces that come together to create a welcoming space. English countryside is a layered approach to cottage core. A mix of vintage pieces and flea market finds.
Use Vintage in a New Way
Don’t forget to set the mood for your home with the glow of candles in the perfect scent. Is this Country Cottage? Using vintage vessel candles from Rustic Illuminations helps to set the mood for a Country Cottage.
Fend off the temptation to buy everything new and think about adding distinctive vintage items or collected treasures to your space. The allure of vintage and unique objects lies in their storied pasts. If they don’t have stories, my creative side says – make them up. Sprinkle your space with interesting furniture and accessories. Layer in textures, tones, and color to create a room that has personality. What does your decor say about you? …Country Cottage?
Using vintage and secondhand pieces in small ways can add such charm to a home. It doesn’t have to be rooms filled with old pieces. Just a touch here and there.
Using Vintage
Fill an old vintage teacup with simple blooms might be Country Cottage.

Vintage step ladders transcend their initial function; they can be ingeniously transformed into decorative pieces, storage solutions, or charming side tables beside the sofa. They can be used for several little vignettes and in several little spots. Think outside the box.

Curated Collections
I appreciate curated collections that seamlessly integrate vintage and contemporary elements, creating a connection between the past and present in interior design.
If the essence of Country Cottage is to harmonize the old with the new, bridging past and present, then it resonates with me. Its core may be steeped in nostalgia where simplicity reigns supreme, and that too appeals to me. It’s a place where textures, colors, patterns, and an assortment of collected items converge to forge a hospitable space. That to, speaks to me.
