Memory Heart Pillow
Holding Them in My Heart
When someone you love becomes a memory… their memory always becomes a treasure. This is my keepsake – memory heart pillow.

Friends, February went too fast. While I felt very busy, it seemed that I did very little in the way of creating. While I had a touch of spring fever I began to get the deep cleaning bug. A cleaning of the pantry commenced. That’s how the month ended. I did a couple of projects that I decided that I should share.

If you know me, you know I get big ideas almost daily. Now, If I act on the big ideas, is another story. Between feeding animals, shoveling snow, cleaning house, doing laundry, feeding the fire in the wood stove, and the list goes on, it seems that my big ideas get shoved to the back burner. You get the idea. However, on this one love day in February, I got an idea to make a heart-shaped pillow using a couple of old tablecloths that my friend and fellow junker had given me. This time, as soon as I got the idea in my head, I needed the idea executed immediately or it probably wouldn’t happen because other things would take priority. I quickly set out to make a memory heart pillow.
Creating A Memory Heart Pillow
What I Gathered:
- Left-over painters drop cloth
- Lace tablecloth
- Cream colored tablecloth
- White thread
- scissors
- needle and thread
- sewing machine
- Brown satin ribbon
- Heart shaped pattern
- Iron and ironing board
- Poly-fil
What I Did:
I missed photo’ing steps 1 – 10. However, If you sew, I think you get the idea of what I did.
Step 1.
I first created a heart shape pattern to my liking. Using a large sheet of paper, I folded the paper in half and drew with a pencil one side of the heart and cut along the pencil mark.

Step 2.
Using the heart shape pattern, I laid it on the cream-colored tablecloth and the painters drop cloth. I pinned it to the fabric and cut out the shape. When I was finished, I laid the lace tablecloth on the front piece of fabric how I would like it to lay. If you notice, I placed the lace at an angle to add a little interest.
Step 3.
Cut out the lace tablecloth in the shape of your liking.
Step 4.
Pin the lace to the pillow top (painters drop cloth).
Step 5.
Stitch the lace to the front of the heart. Stitch along the sides and across the front horizontally and vertically to create pockets as well as securing the lace to the front- heart shape.
Step 6.
Pin the heart shaped pieces, right sides facing each other.
Step 7.
Stitch the right sides together. Remember to leave an opening so you can turn the heart right side out.
Step 8.
Using the iron press around the outside of the heart.
Step 9.
Using Poly-fil stuff your heart shape to the desired fullness.
Step 10.
Stitch the opening closed with a needle and thread or using your sewing machine.

Step 11.
Add your memorabilia. In this case I tucked in a picture of my dad and mother. I also added a brooch and a pin, both belonged to my mother. To finish off my pillow I tied a brown satin ribbon around the side.

Brown Satin Ribbon

A Labor of Love
Phew, my big idea quickly became a labor of love. I lost my parents almost 20 years ago. They are still near and dear to my heart. I think of and miss them every day. I’m grateful that I was able to create this memory heart shaped pillow and make it become something other than one of my big ideas. May be a little on the whimsical side, but definitely something to hug your heart – a true keepsake.
Happy Monday!
