Celery Roses

Do you remember doing arts & crafts when you were in elementary school?

Well, I do!

This is like block printing, but with a vegetable. A celery stock end!

Without time stamping or dating myself, I’m just going to say that I can still remember finger painting when I was in school.

So, I did this thing… I created celery roses and stamped some fabric!

This project uses paint and celery.

Use a cut celery stem to print beautiful rose patterns and turn them into works of art.

I love this craft! It’s very cheap to make & easy for kids! The stalk of celery cost me a $1.29. And, I used craft paints that I had on hand. I got busy and stamped some flour sack towels.

What you will need:

• stalk of celery – (cut the bottom off the stalk of celery about 3 – 4 inches from the bottom. The celery stalk base is what you will use.)
• rubber band – to wrap around the cut end of the celery stalk
• craft paint – fabric paint for fabric if you choose
• fabric or paper to stamp on

Tips:

• First: Before dipping celery into the paint, you may want to dry the cut end on a paper towel. To remove the moisture from the celery stalk.
• Last: When your stamped cloth project is completely dry, to set the paint you can use an iron or put the item in the dryer.
• Make sure that you place paper under the fabric before you stamp. The paint will bleed through.

What I did:

• Grab a paintbrush or dip the celery stalk into the paint getting the whole cut end covered.
• Press the celery firmly on the fabric, rock it a bit to get all parts, and carefully lift up the celery, making sure that you hold the fabric down as you lift.

Here I painted a pink flower and then added some purple mixed in on the center.

You can create different colors on the celery by using a paint brush or foam brush to apply paint to the stalk of celery in different areas of the flower.

It’s okay for paint colors to get mixed! Because my paints, red & yellow, got a little mixed…

I’m really loving the mustard yellow rose mixed with the red.

With this craft the sky is the limit! You can stamp bags, cloth napkins, create wrapping paper, Mother’s Day cards and more! This is a perfect art activity for kids. I can’t wait to try this activity with kids.
